In 2000 within the framework of the Campus Master Plan, the Campus Development Office promoted the 3rd Architectural Design Competition for the planning and design of the Sports Facilities.

Design Team
The 1st prize of the Competition was awarded to Architects' team Chrysanthou & Papachristou.

Project Description / Uses
The design and construction of the Sports Facilities project has been organised in two phases of implementation as outlined below:
Phase 1
- main indoor Sports Hall
- outdoor football field
- 3 outdoor tennis courts
- outdoor hand ball court
- 2 outdoor futsal fields
- 2 basketball / volleyball outdoor courts
- beach volley court
- parking space for 124 places
Phase 2
- Parking building for 600 indoor places
- outdoor stadium with seating
- outdoor football field with seating
Phase 1 has been completed in 2008. Phase 2 will be constructed in the future.
Part of Phase 1, is a linear park which is developed along the outdoor sports fields and establishes an architectural dialogue with the academic buildings which are arrayed on the other side of the road.
Additionally an exciting overhead bridge crossing over the service road links the indoor Sports Centre with the outdoor sports fields and courts.

Project Construction
Phase 1 was broken down in two stages. Construction works of both stages began in January 2005 and were completed in June 2006 and January 2008 respectively.
Project Cost
The cost for the construction works of Phase 1, amounted approximately to €16.675.000 (excluding V.A.T.).
