Natural Sciences in kindergarten: environment-living organisms (6 ECTS)

The main purpose of the course is for students to gain experiences from the natural world, to study how it works and to assess the biotic and abiotic elements of the environment. Also, the course presents and implements ways of teaching about the natural environment and living organisms suitable for the education of preschool children. Emphasis is placed on the realization and evaluation of activities outside the classroom, empirical learning and exploratory learning processes

Natural Sciences in Primary School: physical and chemical phenomena and Changes (6 ECTS)

The course is aimed at preparing teachersstudents for teaching the chapters of physics and chemistry in the science course in primary school. Consequently, the course seeks to acquire students appropriate knowledge for teaching physics and Chemistry subjects in primary school. The course also focuses on the development of teaching skills suitable for the subjects of physics and chemistry, scientific method skills and thinking and reasoning skills. Particular emphasis is placed on the approach of inquiry. At the same time, the course will focus on the interconnection of the concepts that will be presented in the course with everyday life.

Didactics of Natural Sciences (6 ECTS)

This course aims initially to develop the students ' reflection on the acquisition of knowledge in the natural sciences as a set of methodical processes carried out by communities of scientists. Students will approach modern theoretical positions on cognitive development in the Natural Sciences and will also have the opportunity through small studies to gain experience on how students understand the concepts and phenomena of Natural Sciences. The theoretical and practical knowledge and skills acquired will form the basis for the reflection that will be developed subsequently in relation to the teaching of F.E. Elementary School. Teaching methods, both old and Modern, will be examined through the prism of research findings in cognitive psychology and science teaching. Students will be invited to develop teaching approaches for teaching specific concepts and phenomena of Natural Sciences. They will thus be given an opportunity to work upon the problem of connecting the theory of learning with the teaching practice.

Science Teaching in kindergarten (6 ECTS)

The purpose of the course is for students to:
* Familiarize themselves with a variety of teaching and learning approaches in kindergarten which emphasize the enrichment of children's experiences with natural phenomena and the development of dialectical interaction around observation and intervention in phenomena.
* Acquire experiences of interaction with children of infancy in the context of activities related to the natural and artificial environment.
* To gain confidence in the selection and educational use of activities promoting the free exploration of natural phenomena and cultivation of the attitudes and practices of Science in kindergarten.
* To acquire the interest for observation of children and collection of information in relation to the learning development of each child separately and children in groups.

Modern educational dimensions of Biology (6 ECTS)

The main objective of the course is to familiarize teachers-students with the modern ways of teaching the modules concerning living organisms, the natural environment and the human body in primary school. Students study primary school students ' initial perceptions of biological phenomena and examine didactic ways of utilizing them in the classroom. Particular emphasis is given to examining teaching approaches suitable for teaching biological phenomena such as long-term experimental processes, keeping living organisms in the classroom, out-of-class studies, modeling and the use of virtual learning environments. Also, issues of the nature of science, as well as ethical, social and environmental aspects of scientific practice are addressed

Information Technology Support and modern trends in the teaching of Natural Sciences (6 ECTS)

The aim of the course is to get acquainted with informational tools, which can contribute and support learning in the Natural Sciences. These tools relate to tools of modeling, simulation, communication, organization and processing of data, control of mechanisms and meters. In addition to information tools, the contribution and role of digital games to learning in the Natural Sciences will be explored. Students are expected to devote time to learning each tool, explore each tool's contribution to children's learning in the Natural Sciences and design didactic activity sequences as suggestions for integrating each tool into teaching and learning in a variety of contexts in the Natural Sciences. At the same time, the building model of teaching and research are presented and documented in theory, aiming at the development of courses aimed at achieving conceptual change and acquiring scientific method and reasoning skills. These courses are expected to utilize technological tools for the purposes of supporting modern methods, strategies, procedures and practices in the teaching of Natural Sciences, as well as for the purposes of supporting the cultivation of reasoning skills, practical scientific method and evaluation of learning outcomes.
