VISA/ TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT REGULATIONS FOR NON-EU RESEARCHERS
 
Within 10 days from the date of entry into the Republic of Cyprus, the non-EU Researcher should submit the Application Form M61 to the Civil Registry and Migration Department for the issue of Visa/Temporary Residence Permit.

 
VERY IMPORTANT
 
1. You must visit the International Students and Staff Support Office to receive the original Blue slip/Visa and to get informed of the Residence Permit Card procedure.

2. Once the requested documents are ready, you should visit again the International Students and Staff Support Office to stamp the documents, and arrange for you an appointment with the Migration Department.

3. The Migration Department will notify us when your application will be evaluated, in order for you to pay and provide them with your biometrics.
Please be informed that before you apply for your residence permit card, you must visit the International Students and Staff Support Office, to confirm and stamp your documents.

You can visit the Migration Department only after an appointment, arranged between the University of Cyprus and the Migration Department. You will be informed of the date/time.

4. You will be able to travel to Cyprus, after being granted authorisation through the on-line portal https://cyprusflightpass.gov.cy/en/home .

5. Countries are categorized according to their epidemiological situation into categories Green, Orange and Red, with category Green having the most favorable epidemiological status. Any Countries not defined are treated as Grey (Special Permission) category. The categorization of Countries is updated weekly by the Ministry of Health. An announcement concerning any future change will be published at the following link https://www.pio.gov.cy/coronavirus/eng/categories/en-fly .

Please be informed of the measures that are applied by the Cypriot Government, based on the category that your country belongs to, regarding self-isolation rules and covid-19 testing.

Within 10 days from the date of entry into the Republic of Cyprus, you should submit the following required documents in order to get your Cyprus Residence Permit card: 
 
(In case self-isolation is required, the preparation of the documents can be done after the quarantine is over).
 
1. Application Form M61, duly completed and signed.
 
2. Copy of passport, valid for at least 2 years.
 
3. Contract of Employment from the University of Cyprus.
 
4. Original Entry Permit (blue slip).
 
5. Original medical examinations for hepatitis B and C, HIV and Syphilis as well as Chest X-Ray (testing for Tuberculosis). Upon arrival in Cyprus, each Researcher must undergo these medical examinations.
 
6. Proof of comprehensive Health Insurance in the Republic of Cyprus, for the coverage of corpse transport costs.
 
7. Copy of the Rental Agreement/contract certified by the President of a Community Council (your landlord will be able to tell you where you can find the Community Council Area President).
Please note that the Rental Agreement must be also signed by two Cypriot witnesses (ID and Telephone number required). This is needed by the Cyprus Banks, for the purpose of opening a bank account in Cyprus.
 
8. Confirmation from a bank in the Republic of Cyprus that the Researcher has a bank account in Cyprus.
 
Important Notes:
 
• You must visit the Social Insurance District Office in Nicosia in order to apply for a Social Security Number. Please ensure that you have all the necessary documents with you, which have been provided by the Human Resources Department of the University.
 
• You should visit the Social Insurance District Office no earlier than the day of commencement of your employment and no later than one or two days after the date of commencement. The Social Security Department software system cannot issue a Social Security Number for an earlier date.
 
• If you do not have a personal bank account in Cyprus you must open one at a local bank.

• Finally, you must return to the Human Resources Department to submit your bank account number (IBAN), Social Security Number, and a copy of your Alien Registration Certificate.

• The International Students and Staff Support Office will inform you when your Pink slip will be ready (the procedure takes approximately 3 months).

• Your Pink Slip will be automatically cancelled if you stay abroad for a period of more than three months. The International Students and Staff Support Office must be informed in order to apply for your Return Visa.
 
• Please do not make any money transactions in the northern occupied part of Cyprus. This is considered illegal practice and the Migration Department will reject your application. You should also avoid using the airport in the northern part of Cyprus as it is an illegal point of entry.
 
• Please provide the International Students and Staff Support Office with all your contact details in Cyprus (telephone, address and email).
 
RENEWAL OF VISA/TEMPORARY RESIDENCE PERMIT REGULATIONS FOR NON-EU RESEARCHERS

The Temporary Residence Permit lasts for one year, so it is very important to renew the temporary residence permit every year until the end of your employment.

Please see below the required documents in order to get your Renewal Temporary Residence Permit:
 
1. Application Form M61, duly completed and signed.

3. Proof of comprehensive Health Insurance in the Republic of Cyprus, for the coverage of corpse transport costs.
 
4. Copy of Employment letter with the University of Cyprus.
 
5. Copy of the Rental Agreement contract.
 
6. Copy of the Hosting Agreement.
 
7. Copy of the Statement of financial responsibility.
 
8. Confirmation from a bank in the Republic of Cyprus that the Researcher has a bank account in Cyprus.
 
9. €100.00 fee for the application form.
