PAVLOS PAVLOU

In memoriam

Associate Professor Pavlos Pavlou, an esteemed faculty member at the University of Cyprus since 1997, passed away on August 22, 2010 after a long and difficult fight against cancer. The Department of English Studies and the Cypriot academic community will miss Pavlos not only as a colleague, but also as a valued friend. His scholarly work in Teaching English as a Foreign Language in Cyprus and his research on the Sociolinguistics of Cypriot Greek were pioneering. Besides being a committed scholar, he was also a dedicated teacher and mentor to students and colleagues alike. He will be remembered above all for his good will, humour and open-mindedness. The dignity and courage with which Pavlos confronted his illness served as a life model to all of us, and will continue to remind us of the Human at the heart of the Humanities.
